Neighborhood Food Drives

A program that meets specific requests and fills gaps at local pantries by mobilizing Melrose community members to host targeted food drives in their neighborhoods and/or businesses. The Food Drive maintains ongoing communication with local pantries regarding items most needed. To facilitate the drives, we provide a “Food Drive Kit” for hosts, which includes a collection bin, a list of items, a schedule for the drive, a sample flyer to promote the drive, and finally coordination of transport of all collected items at the end of the drive.

Community members have hosted the following targeted drives:

• Breakfast Drive

• Christmas Drive

• Healthy Snacks Drive

• Portable Meals Drive

• Thanksgiving Drive

Drives have been hosted by individuals, families, block parties, Girl Scout troops, students, churches, local businesses, and most recently, the Melrose High School Humanitarian Club, which collected over 1500 pounds of donations for A Servant’s Heart Food Pantry for their Christmas distribution.
